Grants of up to $750 to Saskatchewan families for cultural, artistic, and creative programming for children and youth from ages 4 - 19. Funding is intended for programs for children and youth facing financial barriers to such activities and is based on a family's financial need.

Creative Kids provides funding for Saskatchewan children and youth to participate in creative activities such as art, music, dance, theatre, and culture. All children and youth should have the opportunity to participate in cultural and creative activities, regardless of economic or social barriers.

Estimated Size of Grant:

Creative Kids may provide up to $750 for a child’s activity.

Term of Contract:

For the January 25 deadline: activities begin in February, including February break.
For the March 22 deadline: activities begin in April, including April break.
For the June 7 deadline: summer activities or early registration for fall activities.
For the August 16 deadline: activities that begin in September and follow the school year.
For the December 6 deadline: activities that begin in January.

Additional Eligibility Criteria:

Creative Kids funding is open to Saskatchewan residents. Families can apply to their local Creative Kids committee.

A note about camps: Only camps that provide children with quality art, music, drama, dance, heritage or cultural activities are eligible. For instance, a camp teaching children to sing and play guitar is eligible. Canoe trips and recreational camps that include some art or craft sessions or music and song around a campfire are not eligible as artistic and cultural activities are not their main purpose. Leadership camps, 4-H, Boy Scout, and bible camps are not eligible.

Any activity primarily based on fitness, sport, recreation, science or religion is generally not eligible.

The following activities are not eligible:
- Fitness and physical activity – Zumba, yoga, gymnastics, baton twirling, cheerleading, or sports.
- 4-H, Boy Scouts, Girl Guides, summer camps (except artistic and cultural camps)
- Lego-based activities and camps
- Youth leadership conferences
- Science and engineering-based activities (video game design is eligible)
- Programming, web development and coding
- Bible camp
- Art therapy
- French or English classes
- Fees for choir trips, band trips and school band fees
- Any language lessons not affiliated with the Saskatchewan Organization for Heritage Languages language schools.
- Activities that promote definable religious or political viewpoints
- Activities that focus on technical skills like woodworking, sewing, or cooking unless the artistic or cultural aspects are the main focus.

Pre-Application Information:

2019 application deadlines:
- January 25: For activities beginning in February, including February break
- March 22: For activities beginning in April, including April break
- June 7: For summer activities or early registration for fall activities
- August 16: For activities that begin in September and follow the school year
- December 6: For activities beginning in January

Before the activity begins, send your application to a local Creative Kids committee. Mailed applications must be received before the application deadline to be considered for funding. Families will be notified of results within 30 days of an application deadline.

If you do not live in a town with a committee, apply to the Provincial Office. If you live near Spiritwood, Rosthern, Prince Albert, Candle Lake, Melfort, Nipawin and Hudson Bay, apply to the Lakeland District committee. The Lakeland District map is attached below in Additional Geographic Information.

Shaunavon - As of November 2017, Shaunavon area applicants should use the Provincial application and send their applications to the provincial committee in Regina.

If an application is funded, Creative Kids pays the instructor or service provider directly.
