Request a Grant Writer

Grants starting at $1,000 to Canada organizations for activities and events that support local music publishers, music creators, and audiences. Funding is intended to promote Canadian music within the country and abroad. Eligible program areas include music presentation events, education activities, and publication activities:

- Music Presentation events which can be a showcase, single concert, concert series or a festival. To be eligible these events must include at least 50% of Canadian music.

- Education activities which can range from presenting workshops for songwriters, composers, writers and publishers to the introduction of Canadian music in schools.

- Publication activities, which may include research and writing towards the publication of books or journals (printed or electronic), production of performance scores (printed or electronic).

Estimated Size of Grant:

Minimum grant level is $1,000. Historically, the average Canadian Music Assistance grant is $1,500.

Additional Eligibility Criteria:

SOCAN Foundation provides grants for Canadian music creators and publishers working to promote an appreciation for Canadian music in today’s society.

Pre-Application Information:

Next deadline: September 16, 2019 (11:59 pm – EST)

The applications receive final approval at quarterly board meetings generally held in March, June, September, and November.

Generally, this program only funds a small portion of the applicant’s budget.

Applicants may receive no more than one (1) application to this program per calendar year.

All grants are paid by check upon receipt and approval of the final report. Once the final report has been approved, the organization will receive the check within 4 to 6 weeks.
