Grants of up to $10,000 or £10,000 to USA, Canada, and International nonprofit organizations and libraries for innovative projects that advance literacy in underserved local and global communities. Priority may be given to projects with that will offer long-term impact and sustainability. Grants may be used to fund a portion of a larger project.

Better World Books grants fund literacy and educational nonprofits and libraries for specific projects - the front lines of the fight to reduce global poverty through education.

Literacy needs are defined by broadly identifying, understanding, interpreting, creating, communicating, and computing information to live a more fulfilling and productive life.

Estimated Size of Grant:

The maximum grant amount per project will be $10,000 in North America or £10,000 in U.K. (or equivalent in Euros). You can apply for a grant that is less than this amount.

Additional Eligibility Criteria:

Library applications will be open to libraries located in the US, Canada, UK, and Europe.

Nonprofit applications are open to nonprofit organizations globally.

Pre-Application Information:

2019 schedule:
- Late February: Applications open
- April 30th: Applications due 11:59 PM Eastern Time USA
- May - July: The selection period
- September onwards: Recipients notified

Organizations may pitch only one project each.
