Description:

Request a Grant Writer

Grants of $15,000 to Calgary Area, Alberta nonprofit arts organizations to hire arts graduates for internship positions. Applicants must contact program staff to obtain access to the application. The purpose of this program is to provide graduates with career development opportunities in the arts sector.

The first steps on an artist’s career path after formal training are typically the steepest and hardest to climb. As part of the Rozsa Foundation’s long-term commitment to strengthening the arts sector in its entirety, the Foundation is proud to offer Arts Internship Grants for smaller organizations (no more than 5 FTEs), giving them the opportunity to support an artist through this phase of their career, while also assisting arts organizations to address staffing challenges and help build internal capacity. The Intern should also contribute toward an internship "Legacy" piece - a resource or project that will stay with the organization and be used after the internship ends (process manual, collection database, established community relationships, etc).

Rozsa Foundation Artistic Internship Grants are designed to provide employment opportunities for recent arts graduates in their selected field and to advance their knowledge, skills, experiences, and networks. This grant stream supports a flexible approach to high-impact, mentor-driven learning and opportunity within the field for artists in the fields of choreography, composition, conducting, creative and critical writing, curation, design, direction, and playwriting among others.

Please Note:
- Funds granted from this program may only be used for an intern’s salary. No other costs, including mentoring fees or external professional development are eligible.
- Co-op work terms, or any other component of an intern’s educational degree, are not eligible for funding.
- The organization’s project budget should illustrate the requisite $3,200 and mandatory employment related costs and any other additional investments in the internship.

Applicant organizations are required to contribute $3,200 in wages plus mandatory employment-related costs, for a total base wage of $700/week over the 26 week internship.

Term of Contract:

It is also possible for the terms of the employment to be part-time over a longer period of time, but please contact program staff prior to making such an application. Internships must be completed within one calendar year from notification of funding.

Additional Eligibility Criteria:

The following requirements apply to all Rozsa Foundation granting streams:

- You must be a charity with a valid CRA charitable business number (9 digits, 2 letters, 4 digits).
- You must be an arts-focused organization (or be applying for support in engaging the arts to further your mission).
- The focus of the Foundation’s investment is in Calgary and the surrounding area (including Rocky View County, MD Foothills, Banff, Canmore, Drumheller, and Rosebud) as well as to provincial organizations whose initiatives will directly benefit the Calgary arts community. Action Learning Projects are eligible regardless of where in Alberta the organization is based.
- Organizations located outside of these areas may still be eligible but should contact staff prior to beginning the application.
- Preference may be given to proposals that can use a Rozsa Foundation grant to leverage additional funding or other resources, as reflected in the project budget as well as those that are geared toward equity, diversity and inclusion initiatives and those that promote inter-organizational collaboration.

The Foundation does not fund administrative salaries and normal administrative costs, deficit financing and debt repayment or capital campaigns. The Foundation will not fund your normal programming activities, but new programs or significant expansions are eligible if they can advance the organization in a meaningful way. The Foundation does not provide operating or undesignated funding, nor does the Foundation fund retroactively. If you are incurring costs before the decision meeting (these occur within one month after the deadline) the expenses may be ineligible.
