Grants ranging from $250 to $2,500 to Mississauga, Ontario community groups for neighborhood projects and for projects that increase community participation in bicycling activities. Applicants must contact program staff to gain approval and obtain an access code to apply. For the current grant cycle, funding is intended for programs that promote the use of bicycles and will get city residents moving.

The City is seeking enthusiastic and engaged community groups to help foster a culture of Cycling in the City for their registered participants and/or community residents. Cycling Projects could include but are not limited to:
- Group/Community bike rides;
- Bicycle repair clinics;
- Cycling skills training sessions with certified instructors;
- Children cycling activities like bike rodeos or 'decorate your bike';
- Women rides, newcomers education, older adults rides, etc.

Please note: The program is still open for project ideas outside this theme that are "by the community for the community" that can:
- Strengthen neighborhoods;
- Increase resident engagement; and
- Support residents to participate in events & activities at the neighborhood level

Additional project ideas:
- Projects that engage new audiences including youth, newcomers and older adults in sport and recreational activities;
- Projects that support Age-friendly communities
- Neighborhood learning events that allow residents to enhance knowledge and develop new skills around areas of mutual interest; and
- Neighborhood events that allow residents to get to know one another and make connections

Project will be completed and funding will be spent within the calendar year in which it is being requested.

Additional Eligibility Criteria:

The Small Project Matching Grants Program is only open to Affiliated and Recognized Community Groups that are in good standing with the City (e.g. no outstanding debts to the City and status has been renewed annually) under the Community Group Support Policy.

Applications may be submitted by informal groups of residents or other community groups, if the project is sponsored by an Affiliated or Recognized Community Group in good standing with the City. Registered Groups may sponsor up to two applications.

Groups that are interested in becoming an Affiliated or Recognized Community Group with the City can complete an expression of interest form at Application takes approximately 4-6 weeks to process.

Applications must also meet the following eligibility requirements:
- Project must be outside of the normal range of activity for the applicant (e.g. a new or pilot initiative).
- Applicant has not received funding from the City for another project within the same calendar year.
- Applicant can upload financial statements from their last Annual General Meeting
- Sponsoring organization has not sponsored another group within the same calendar year; however, limited exceptions may be considered.
- Project is open to residents and an admission or program registration fee is not being charged.

Grants are not available for:
- Groups that are currently receiving funding from another City grant program or if the group has activities funded by other City of Mississauga subsidies.
- Groups that are currently receiving funding from another City grant program are still eligible to sponsor an application as they do not directly benefit.
- Groups that are not an Affiliated or Recognized Community Group in good standing with the City, unless sponsored by such a group.
- Activities that take place outside of Mississauga and do not benefit Mississauga residents
- Activities that take place on private property
- Activities that will be delivered to/for the following ineligible groups: government agencies, for-profit organizations, educational institutions such as part of a school, college or university curriculum, commercial ventures, or organizations aligned with political parties.
- Activities that are within the normal range of activity for the applicant and/or were previously funding through the SPMG program
- Activities that are occurring within a larger planned event/activity with a budget over $10,000
- Volunteer appreciation
- Prize and/or Award Ceremony’s

Pre-Application Information:

The program will accept and review applications on a continuous basis until October 1, 2019, or until the budget allotment is reached, whichever comes first. Under normal circumstances, applicants are notified within 4-6 weeks of application submission.

Applicants must contact the Community Development Unit to discuss their project idea, to ensure eligibility, and obtain an access code. Only eligible applicants will be provided with an access code. Once an access code has been provided applicants may apply.

Applicants are required to match funds requested from the City with the equivalent value of volunteer time ($14.00/hour — minimum wage) and/or other in-kind donations or funds.
