Grants ranging from $5,000 to $30,000 to Washington child welfare nonprofits for programming and operational support. Applicants must submit a letter of inquiry prior to applying. Funding is intended for programs focused on healing neglected and abused children, strengthening families, and empowering youth. Eligible organizations should primarily benefit children in Snohomish, King, Kitsap, and Pierce counties. The Fund supports a variety of program needs and will consider grant requests for both general operating support and specific programs or needs (new or ongoing).

Programs should focus on prevention, early-intervention, and treatment programs in the following three areas:

  1. Healing Children: With the goal of helping abused and neglected children heal and feel safe, the Fund supports programs that include intensive pediatric care, therapeutic foster care and daycare, and programs aimed at finding stability and, ultimately, permanency for foster kids. This vital work brings hope, compassion, and healing to children in need, including those who are disabled, drug-exposed, medically fragile and otherwise vulnerable to abuse or neglect.
  2. Strengthening Families: With the goal of ensuring that children have safe, healthy, stable home lives, the Fund supports organizations that reach out to families facing challenges like homelessness, mental illness, substance abuse, and domestic violence—some of the strongest risk factors for child abuse and neglect. These programs include parenting education and training, support for caregivers, family centers, domestic violence shelters and others that give families the resources they need to parent effectively even in times of stress.
  3. Empowering Youth: With the goal of helping kids create the developmental assets—relationships, opportunities, and qualities—they need to avoid risks and to thrive, the Fund supports programs that foster stable relationships, promote critical decision-making abilities and instill positive values. Grants support tutoring and mentoring, programs for homeless youth and youth aging out of foster care, and a variety of youth engagement programs.

Grant proposals should identify the target population and address how that population will benefit from the services provided. Program implementation and evaluation, additional funding sources, and coordination with other service providers should also be discussed.
